Oil and gas panel set to oppose new DEP drilling regulations

The state Department of Environmental Protection’s oil and gas advisory boards will meet later this month and in early September to get a first look at the final versions of DEP’s long-debated revisions to its rules for the drilling industry. But one of those boards, made up of representatives from Pennsylvania’s conventional oil and gas industry, has already made up its mind to reject the final draft.

All of the voting members of the Conventional Oil and Gas Advisory Committee, which was formed in March to provide the state’s traditional drilling sector with more opportunity to participate in the development of DEP rules, wrote to the department’s chief oil and gas regulator in July to say that they will not support advancing the rules to the next stage of the approval process “regardless of revisions that DEP may or may not make before that submission.”
