Gas pipelines expanding in region

Natural gas production in the Marcellus Shale region topped 4 trillion cubic feet in 2014 and many gas companies are scrambling to build new pipelines to transport that gas.

Penn State Extension Marcellus Education Team tracks the progress of this ever growing industry, and in a recent webinar educator Dave Messersmith laid out what the future could look like if these gas pipelines are built.

Messersmith said there has been a “dramatic sea change” in natural gas production in America. The Appalachian region accounted for just 2 percent of natural gas production in 2008, but by 2014 the region accounted for 23 percent.
