Coalition slams state’s proposed overhaul of oil, gas-well regulations

After state regulators released their final proposal this week to overhaul regulations for how Pennsylvania’s oil and gas industry should handle above-ground operations, a leading stakeholder coalition said it foresees myriad negative impacts that could cost some businesses heavily in lost jobs, negated investment and higher taxes.

“The governor’s regulatory overreach, taken together with the threat of a highest-in-the-nation energy tax, as well as persistently low global commodity prices, severely discourages investment and job creation in the Commonwealth,” David Spigelmyer, president of the Pittsburgh-based Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC), said. The coalition represents the natural gas industry.
